Field Notes Gallery
A visual journal of interesting people, places, objects, colors, and light from my last few weeks.
During the fair weather seasons I tend to be out intentionally photographing the world more often. The result being that I grab fewer Field Notes on my phone camera. But very occasionally I still phone snap something I want to remember later on.
I take a lot of photos of my cats - and almost all of them are in my field notes.
In 2021 I made this mixed-media piece titled The Color of Consumerism. It was a discussion piece about how the color pink is used to market non-essential things to women. A complex trick of the Capitalist trade because first they had to make us believe that pink is a symbol of femininity. It’s my most exhibited piece to date and a personal favorite that I keep in my own collection.
This work continues to make me hyper-aware of how pink is used in the world.
In my sketch practice I’ve been focused on shadows; in photography I worry about highlights. I pay attention to light.
I’ll wrap this up with some interesting people. One I know, a few are strangers, and one lives in my garden.
This post is free. If you would like to support my work, please consider purchasing a copy of my photo zine, Genuine Curiosity. I have six different volumes available. It’s available on my website, or locally at Lion’s Mouth Book Store and The Art Garage.
